In a simple but meaningful ceremony on Monday, August 24, 2009, twenty (20) madaris from the ARMM recieved their financial grant from DepEd Central Office. The ceremony commenced at 5 o’clock in the afternoon and was held at the Bulwagan ng Karunungan, DepEd Complex, Pasig City.
This ceremony was graced by Secretary Jesli Lapus, Undersecretary Manaros Boransing (for Muslim and IP education) and other key officials. Joining the managers of qualified madaris were invitees from the diplomatic corps and the media.
The ARMM was represented by the Regional Governor Datu Zaldy Uy Ampatuan, Secretary Dr Udtog Kawit, Undersecretary Sheik Mohamad Faried Adas and Director Moharrim Mohammad.
The ceremony ended with an iftar, the Muslim’s breaking of the fast.
The grant is based on DepEd Orders 81 (s. 2007) and 18 (s. 2008) for madaris with (1) DepEd permit to operate or certificate of recognition; (2) implement the DepEd-prescribed Standard Madrasah Curriculum (DO 51, s. 2004); and complying with other government regulations on private schools. The grant is computed on per student basis in the amount of P5,000 per year. The DepEd rules specify the mount to be spent exclusively for salaries of RBEC teachers (80%) and improvement of the learning environment (20%).
